British producer IAN SIMMONDS is no stranger to the Downtempo / Headz circuit. He has been active in the London underground scene as a professional guitarist, keyboard and trumpet player since 1991 when he made his debut appearance as founder of Acid Jazz formation THE SANDALS. In addition he produced his own tracks for the then totally unknown Leftfield and Pressure Drop, which were to substantially influence his later productions. During these recordings he met musician Luke Gordon – their paths were to cross frequently in the future.
Along with his production jobs and commitments as a bassist for numerous bands IAN SIMMONDS was releasing tracks on illustrious labels such as Ninja Tune, ATL, Pussyfoot and SSR under his pseudonym, Juryman. Juryman vs Spacer, the album he produced in collaboration with Luke Gordon, is touted as an absolute milestone of innovative jazzy electronics, and made a good many DJs and critics sit bolt upright and pay attention.
Since then, IAN SIMMONDS has been one of the pioneers of the London scene. On his first album on K7 records he blends smooth beats with abstract soundscapes, glorifying them with vocals and exposing his love of dub, early Carl Craig breakbeats , bebop and hip hop, making "The Last States Of Nature" a fantastically varied Album. This will only go to consolidate IAN SIMMONDS reputation as one of our most innovative producers.
