Freestyle Files - Vol.1
Since several months the monotonous "4 to the floor" principle of house and techno are undermined through new trends in the european club circuit. Musical hybrids of electro, trip-hop, drum’n’bass and easy listening formed a new club-culture most likely to be defined as "Free Style", which attracts even more indie-kids beside the dance crowd. Catering to this movement is the aim of the "Freestyle Files"!
Specially the London scene is setting new standards almost weekly. The clubnights with Ninja Tune, James Lavelle (Mo Wax) and Metalheadz at Blue Note, LTJ Bukem’s Speed as well as some elektro parties strengthen London’s superior role concerning innovative sound and therefore it ain’t surprising that 14 tracks come from this thrilling and pulsating London scene.
The musical width on Freestyle reaches from trip-hop classics like Nightmares On Wax, Howie B. Kruder & Dorfmeister, Funki Porcini via lounge-electronics of Jimi Tenor, Gregory Fleckner, Sabres Of Paradise to drum’n’bass classics like Alex Reece, Photek, Wagon Christ’s Plug and Kid Loops, thus reflecting on the trend of the year: Freestyle! All currently important and innovative labels are represented with their classics: Warp, Clear, Metalheadz, Ninja Tune and many more show how thrilling and exciting clubbing 1996 could be!
This unique release will even be available on 3×12" vinyl containing the best tracks, among them the Herbert track "100 lbs".
